Auchindrain Township Open Air Museum, Auchindrain lies on the A83, six miles south of Inveraray in Argyll and Bute. It is the only township to survive substantially unaltered from amongst the many hundreds that existed across the Scottish Highlands before the Highland Clearances of the late 18th and 19th centuries. Dunbar Harbour, Cromwell Quay, Shore St, Dunbar EH42 1SU, small harbour, shooting place, eastern from Edinburgh on the east coast


Dunblane Cathedral, north of Stirling. The Cross, Dunblane FK15 0AQ. One of the most fascinating churches from the 11th/12th century. Open to the public every day. Absolutely no shooting for season 4.

Dunfermline Abbey – in Dunfermline northern from Edinburgh, the church is open and free to visit, but the palace ruins require payment. A great number of Scottish Kings and Queens are buried here. There is a plate for Robert the Bruce in the church


Dunkeld (north from Perth on the A9) – Where Jamie walks with Brianna in the woods and where Roger flees from the Red Indians and finds the stone circle


Dunmore Park St Andrew's Dr, Falkirk FK2 8LP southeast from Stirling – private property, but the law allows walking as long as you don’t cross a fence or commit another offense. Either parking somewhere near (where it is not prohibited) and walk past the barrier, straight to a farm, turn left and continue on a grass path for a few hundred metres.


Dunure Castle in South Ayrshire near Dunure,  KA7 4LW, southern from Ayr on the west coast. Where Jamie searches for Claire after he flew from Ardsmuir Prison and where the English soldiers searched for him. Young Ian's attempt for the treasure and his capture was also shot there.


Dunure Harbour,  KA7 4LN, where Jamie and Claire embark on their search for young Ian, and also Brianna and Roger.


Dysart Harbour near Kirkcaldy (northern from Edinburgh) standing for Le Havre


Edinburgh Castle, one of the most important points of interest in Scotland. The hillc castle is located in the centre of Edinburgh on Castle Rock at the end of the Royal Mile. Falkirk Wheel, a modern rotating boat lift near Falkirk, constructed like a carnival big wheel and unique in the world. Lime Rd, Tamfourhill, Falkirk FK1 4RS, height 35 m


Falls of Clyde, Dye Works, New Lanark Road, Lanark ML11 9DB, 26 m, 4 steps, nature reserve with birds, beavers, otters etc., south-eastern from Edinburgh, the smaller falls are to be seen after about 100 metres, the bigger falls are about 30 minutes hiking


Falls of Dochart FK21, in midtown Killin at the western end of Loch Tay. View to the falls from the bridge crossing in the village, more like a big collection of rapids, there are many B&Bs down the road towards the nature reserve, reservation recommended


Falls of Foyers, opposite of Urquart Castle, on the east side of Loch Ness, 165 feet high. There’s a free car park above the falls and about 200 steps / 10 minuts down to the upper falls, about 5 more minutes down to the lower falls IV2 6XX


Faskally Forest, PH16 5JZ, wooded area between River Tummel and A9 near Pitlochry, this was home of the native Americans in season 4


Finnich Glen / Devil’s Pulpit: Killearn, Stirlingshire, G63 9QL - St. Ninian’s spring, this location is dangerous, should be risked only by mentally and physically capable people. Only with good hiking shoes, not after or during rain, not alone, only in groups. Word goes rescue missions have highly increased there. There’s a small parking for about 2 cars on the A809 next to the bridge, otherwise use the left side of the wide crossroads to Killearn, walk along the left side to the gap in the wall or climb over the fence and follow the path (attention: usually is muddy even on sunny days), after about 200 m there is the path to the steps on your left. If you’re lucky, the ropes are intact, further down, the steps are uneven, unstable and some do even miss and it’s very steep. Prepare to get wet and dirty, be very careful. It’s worth climbing, but I was very lucky – two times.

Big parking at about the middle of the valley

Glenfinnan Viaduct, Lochaber, tourist info, car park (be early, very crowded!) train arrives at about 10.45 Uhr, another one in opposite direction a little later. Near Fort William A830, PH37 4 – this view is from below and from the “wrong side” to the viaduct, the view point on the mountain should be better.


Gosford House, Longniddry EH32 0PX, far southeast from Edinburgh, was used for the outside of Wakefield’s house, but standing also for Helwater Estate, was closed in 2017, should reopen in spring 2018

Hunterston House, West Kilbride, Castle Ave, KA23 9QG is Reverend Wakefield's house (southwest of Glasgow), not public. A lot of scenes were shot there. Reverend Wakefield's living room and library, Mrs. Graham's kitchen, Claire and Frank's bedroom at Mrs. Baird's, and the reception and another room where they talk through the night after Claire's return. An old attic room where Claire looks after Fergus and Murtagh spends the afternoon with the maid Suzette. Likewise, where Brianna and Roger search the attic for documents. An old outbuilding as the shed where Frank lets his anger out.

Kilchurn Castle, is a ruined structure on a rocky peninsula at the northeastern end of Loch Awe. Loch Awe, Dalmally PA33 1AF


Kilmartin Glen Standing Stones, Kilmartin Glen is an area in Argyll not far from Kintyre, which has one of the most important concentrations of Neolithic and Bronze Age remains in Scotland. The glen is located between Oban and Lochgilphead, surrounding the village of Kilmartin. There are more than 350 ancient monuments within a six-mile radius of the village, with 150 of them being prehistoric. Monuments include standing stones, a henge monument, numerous cists, and a "linear cemetery" comprising five burial cairns. Several of these, as well as many natural rocks, are decorated with cup and ring marks. Baluachraig PA31 8QG

Queen‘s View above Loch Tummel is one of the most famous views in whole Scotland. Pitlochry PH16 5NR


Rest and be thankful The highest point on the A83 is 803 ft above sea level and divides Glen Kinglas from Glen Croe. From the viewpoint of this famous beauty spot you can see the old valley road, engineered by General Wade during the subjection of Scotland following the Jacobite rebellion. A stone was erected to commemorate the completion of this military road in 1750.


River Edge Lodges, not far from Falkland, is where they shot for the cabins of Roger and Brianna in 403, where they had their break-off, Back St, Bridge of Earn, Perth PH2 9AB


Rosslyn Chapel, Chapel Loan, Roslin EH25 9PU, gothic church 15. Century, south from Edinburgh. There’s a footpath downhill, next to the chapel, turn left at the graveyard, to Roslyn Castle, and a flight of stairs above the castle downhill into Roslin Glen Country Park


Roslin Glen Country Park, the upper entrance to the park in the hairpin bend, leave your car a little further down the street, through the gate on the gravelled road about 1 km to the ruins, Roslyn Gunpowder Factory, Old Mill lade, Roslin EH25 9PX, shooting was for episode 109


St. Andrews, east from Perth on the east coat, Castle, Abbey and University

Steall Waterfalls southeast from Fort William, south from Ben Nevis, lower/smaller falls first with car park just aside. Bigger/upper falls on an adventurous road into the mountains, sometimes just 7 feet wide, to the next car park and then about 30 minutes hiking.
